i sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago playing bball. it was pretty bad swelling, but went away after about a week. also took me about 2 weeks to walk around normally (i was able to hobble after about 10 min), but there is still a little swelling in the ankle. also, i have pain on the top of my ankle when i try running (sharp pain) (it feels like a tendon or something) and a duller pain if i press the side of my ankle bone. if i ice it the pain goes away for a bit. any clue on the best treatment for my ankle?? thanks.... oh and i didn't RICE cuz i've never had an ankle sprain before and didn't realize it was this bad. now i rice though.

get a trash bucket fill it a quarter of the way with ice water and put your foot in that for 20 minutes every day. Then after that get a towel and place some marbles on it and pick them up with your toes and place them in a container. Then get a chair with wheels and roll your self around the room both front and back and see how that works for you.

if you have pain when you press on bone you had better see a doctor and check for breaks. or it's possible that the sprain was bad enough that you actually tore your ligaments completely - in which case there's plenty of things you should be doing.

just go to the dr and find out. I'm healing my first sprained ankle (at 6 weeks now) and didn't do rice either - same reason you gave. anyway, i've been researching sprains.... the only thing to do is go to a dr.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

it does take a good 6 weeks for a sprain to heal, almost worse than a fracture! Just keep doing the R-I-C-E thing, take Motrin/Ibuprofen for the pain, it will also help with the swelling too

you probably need to take some Xrays to see if you have any broken bones, if nothing shows you might even need ultrasound to see if your tendon is torn...

often times they put you in a air cast that goes below your knee to stabilize your foot and ankle until you are completely healed....

you are reinjurying yourself everytime you step on it by not using any support... you should definitely see a Dr. for this.
