Im having ALOT of trouble sleeping lately. I cannot fall asleep until around 4 am and then I only sleep til around 8. I cannot use sleep aids b/c my doctor will not prescribe them. I know it has something to do with the fact that I'm in a knee immoboilizer that is Extremely uncomfortable, but if anyone has any suggestions that would be a great help. Its starting to really wear me down. Thanks!

First of all do not use TV to fall asleep. Do not eat anything big before bedtime. Turn on only a night lamp when you know it is bedtime. No other lights should be on. Turn off the TV and the computer ahead of time before sleep. Try reading with the night lamp while in bed. Try not to go to bed with an air conditioner on or windows open. A shower before bedtime or music with earphones may help too. Being relaxed in the dark should bring on sleepiness! =<)

How about taking a lavender bath or something soothing before bed....... Also only use your bed to sleep in do not watch TV or read in bed...... When you go to bed your brain will start to associate the bed with sleep hopefully making it easier to fall asleep...... Also steer clear of naps... If you must nap do so for no longer than 20 minutes........ And the last thing you should do is really set a time that you are going to go to bed at... Try to stay consistent with that time....... Also make sure you get up at the same time in the morning.... At first doing this may make you seem more tired but that is normal.......It will take a while but you should see improvements if you follow these tips..... Good luck!!

I can relate to your problem because i suffer from it as well. So here are somethings that work for me and might help you out.
1- Try to increase your physical excercise during the day, because the more tired you are, the easier for you to fall asleep.
2- Do not eat food in the last two hours before bed and try to drink a glass of hot milk an hour or two before going to bed.
3- When you go to bed, try not to think of things that worry you, or planning your day. just clear your mind and think of something abstract and soothing.
4- Reading can sometimes put you to sleep. you should try reading before going to bed
5- You might want to try keeping the TV on, but keep the volume low, so that you donot keep up with what is being said and become interested. It works for me sometimes

I hope you can have some goodnight sleep.

That's a tough one, different things work for different people, some of the things that have worked for me are: reading, eating turkey, drinking a cup of warm kava-kava tea, or chamomile tea or jasmine tea (all decaff, of course)...maybe you should try having a turkey sandwich with a cup of warm chamomile tea and then delve into a long book...maybe somewhere after the first few chapters, you will nod off... :-) Good Luck!

Dont drink any pop during the day - and try to cut down on sugar. That should really help!

Watch a political debate on tv. That always helps me fall asleep.

Send your friend to the health food store and get the following:

Valerian root -- tablets or capsules.

GABA -- an amino acid.

Taurine -- an amino acid.

L-Tryptophan -- another amino.

GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) and Taurine will relax you; Valerian or Tryptophan will help you sleep (ESPECIALLY Tryptophan).

Non-narcotic, too.
