I've had Oscars for more than twenty years. I've kept them with South American and African Cichlids.
They are somewhat temperamental and occasionally pick on a fish that they've decided they don't like, but are not even on my top five list of aggressors.
Oscars do get big and need a good size tank. My greatest success with a "community" of fish that get along has been when I bought them all at once, just babies really.
Pacus on the other hand... Don't do it!
They get extremely huge extremely quick. While they may be vegetarians, they are very territorial and very aggressive. No matter what you start with, you will have nothing in the tank but the Pacus... and then they will turn on each other.

They should get along ok, but I wouldn't recommend getting a pacu. They get to be about 2-3 feet long, and most home aquariums cannot accomodate them properly. For the oscar, make sure it's a minimum 55 gallon tank.

Pacus are part of the piranha family, the vegetarian side their teeth are as impressive as a Black Piranha, only molars instead of incisors. Oscars are predatory by nature and also loads of fun to keep, but they should probably be in a species tank. Pacus get too big for home aquaria, however they are delicious. Pacus require a vegetable based diet, not minnows. --------P.S. The Oscar tank should be over 100 gallons if you want to keep more than two.

They would be problamatic in that they get HUGE and are dirty fish. They'd probably pick on most other small fish. (If they couldn't get them in their mouths to eat them)
Pacus get up to about 4 feet. :D
Oscars get about a foot.

you are crazy for keeping pacus...do you know their adult size? i just hope you have a massive tank. oscars are very predatory and will eat anything that can fit in their mouths. if i remember right pacu are relatively peaceful but i wouldn't put anything smaller than the oscars.
