Sorry, but they aren't gonna do it. Much to the FMA fan's frustration Adult swim already announced that there will be no more episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist and the movie Conqurer of Shamballa will wrap up the th end of the story. Also there are three short OVA episodes [though they don't have much of a connection to the original story line; they are mainly for fan service and comedy].

The manga has a different kind of story line than the anime, whicj is very good in it's own aspects. Actually the anime went on before the manga and changed the original plot a lot. Thus the manga has a different ending. You can read it if you like.

Also I've heard that in the novelization of FMA, there are some stories that take place after the events from the movie. That means it shows what happens after Ed and Al goes to Earth. Although I never got the chance to get a hold on them; so I can't confirm it's authenticity.

Probably money. If FMA raked in enough I'm sure they'd do more. Perhaps the initial talks with the studio was only to produce a certain number of episodes.

I don't know where the manga left off so I can't say why they didn't have it as an on going series. Naruto has been a longer running series and with popularity there are more episodes and more movies. Case in point, the manga One Piece has 47 volumes, over 300 episodes and running, and 6 movies thus far.

You can keep up with FMA info on this page which has an extensive anime news databse: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2960

There won't be any more episodes of FMA for that matter, and the movie wrapped up the whole series well.

the manga on the other hand, is still ongoing, becomes completely unrelated to the story in the TV series quite early on.

If you do intend to continue FMA, the manga offers a storyline much different from the TV series

so it'll be something new / different

Everything was resolved at the end. I don't think they will make another series for it. Another move could be to remake the whole series. I know that manga differs quite a bit from the anime.

As much as I hate to admit it, I doubt the anime will ever continue. However, there's always the manga to look forward to :D
