The morning after pill does NOT qualify as abortion because it is to prevent implantation of an egg in the first place. It cannot cause an abortion if the person is already pregnant.
The morning after pill, an emergency contraceptive, is recommended to be used after sexual intercourse, over a period of 72 hours, to achieve the goal of preventing pregnancy. There are three different ways birth control pills are currently being promoted for this use: progesterone alone, estrogen alone, or both of these artificial steroids together.
These are the same steroids found in the typical birth control pill.
RU486 is considered the "abortion" pill because the two pills needed for it to work ONLY work for a termination of an existing pregnancy and only within 63 days after the last period. It is ineffective after that

Wow, you really did get some strange answers. Amazing how misinformed people are.
The morning after pill keeps an egg from becoming fertilized. Even tho there is no pregnancy at all, neocons are against it. I have no idea why except maybe they have been told the wrong information. Nobody should be against it because there was never a fertilized egg there to begin with.

First, the morning after pill does not do much except "hopefully" prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus. In general, women have only a 25% chance of becoming pregnant in any given month, so there's a 75% chance that you are NOT interfering with nature.

It comes down to personal beliefs and convictions. Search your own heart for the answer to your question.

In the medical community, no. Abortion is a procedure that requires a certified doctor and the use of specific instruments. The morning after pill is classified as birth control since the fetus has not developed any characteristics.

It depends on whether you define life as beginning at fertilization or conception, which are not the same thing. The morning after pill is only effective before conception, when the egg is fertilized but hasn't implanted yet. So, in theory, the morning after pill shouldn't bother pro-lifers who believe life begins at conception, but not fertilization.

But one can take the "morning after" pill without being pregnant. One can't have an abortion if they are not pregnant.

I'm sure, that given the proper amount of time, the holy ones will determine masterbation is abortion. They'll have a great time with our inbred sense of guilt, then! Won't they?

To the extremists, yes. The majority of Americans don't have a problem with it though so it will never become illegal in the United States.

No. It prevents an egg from being fertilized. It does not destroy an already fertilized egg. It's just like birth control only much stronger dose of hormones. It takes a while for the sperm to swim up the vaginal canal and through the cervix and into the falopian tubes to the egg, dig inside it and fertilze it. That gives women a window of time to prevent fertilization from happening after sexual intercourse.

I personally don't believe so. Most people say it is a type of abortion because the baby supposedly already has feelings and such when you kill it with a birth control or morning after pill. I think that it is better to kill it early on when it barely has a brain or anything, then to kill it when it already has built a connection to you and everything.
