We've always been sheep- every group as large as a nation or as small as a tribe is composed mostly of sheep. Just now, we've been given a reason to tighten the herd. Throw the words "God" or "patriotism" onto your agenda and the gullible follow. I'm in a red state and most down here say think 9/11 and the war actually had something to do with each other. I've even heard some equate the war with fighting for God. Blasphemy. Makes me want to carry a soapbox under my arm. Some people are just less ovine than others.

It happens every time the Republicans get a strong president. The 80% of the American people that are hard working, Democratic leaning citizens sat on their duff and got the dictatorial administration that their apathy elected. They were rudely awakened and found that they were too late to stop the abomination that is a democratic republic gone rogue. We can only hope that they are so horrified at what they allowed to happen that by the next election they will rectify the situation. In other words, we may go asleep at the wheel , but we are not sheep.

I fear that the United States are heading straight to doomville if we keep on acting the way we have, just like you said: A nation of sheep.

A nation of sheep? Would that be buying the propaganda of one's government -- hook, line and sinker. I may have mistakenly given American's more credit than their due.
Since 9/11 my respect for many Americans has declined greatly.

A nation is as great as its leaders, for the majority of the people behave like sheep, waiting for the sheepherder to lead them. The USA was lucky to have good or even great leaders in its short history. It looks like you're running out of luck. Meanwhile, the Chinese seem to get lucky...

There is always hope...but i think we're doomed, no one does anything about it. The government keeps engaging in senseless wars and spend money on weapon when there is other things to worry about.
