Many liberals hate the idea of stereotyping, for good reason. You shouldn't stereotype the opinions of a black man just because he's black, or stereotype women into the role of housewife, or stereotype an Arab immigrant as a terrorist. Libs are always first to point out that people should not be grouped into demeaning catagories.
But then in political debates these same "open-minded," "well-educated," liberals accuse all conservatives of being...
* Brainwashed by Rush Limbaugh. (As in, "Why do conservatives believe ___?" "Because Rush told them to," implying that every conservative can't think for themselves.)
* Desperately in love with GW Bush (there are many conservatives who dislike him, for the record.)
* White hillbilly rednecks from down south flying confederate flags (there are plenty of well-educated conservatives as well as African American and Asian ones)
* Fundamentalist nutjobs (Many conservatives aren't even Christian)
Libs: Why is this form of stereotyping acceptable?

Conservatives don't hate the concept of stereotyping; hence, it is not a logical fallacy for me to stereotype liberals by accusing them of stereotyping conservatives. Your political beliefs claim that stereotyping is a horrible, horrible thing; if you really held true to that philosophy you, ideally, wouldn't stereotype anyone.
In other words: If you want to claim that your political party holds the higher "moral ground" because you don't stereotype, then you have to earn that distinction by being an impartial judge across the board.

Stereotyping sucks, nut we live in a dogeat dog world. Some people think that because of WHO they are gives them the right to judge. Is it right? No. But in hindsight we all do it at one point and time. Should we be careful of what we allow ourselves to think and ssay? Yes. We get back from this world what we put in it. I can 't control people that stereotype, neither can you. All I can do is do right by people even when they don't always do right be me. And YES I will win in the long run. We alll just need to be good to one another.

Well good thing they are only stereotypes... huh... Because I am not a pissed off redneck... well maybe a redneck, but an affluent redneck.... and I have missed every single episode of Rush.... The only time I would drive in F250 is if I am working on a farm/ranch/oil field... or I want to run that stupid woman in a Toyata Sonata with a Republicans for Obama sticker on the back of her van that keeps trying to run me over by cutting me off or illegally driving through the center lane to pass people because she just can't wait her turn..... and I avoid the school zones because I hate going 20 and I have never listened to Lynard Skynard.... Oh and this conservative owns and loves their macbook and ipod and iphone.... crap I should get paid by apple from all the apple stuff I sport. The only stereotype I truly get offended by is when people say conservatives are uneducated, pro-war, hill billies that hates education and poor people.... because that simply is not true... Conservatives are viewed negatively by liberals and liberals are viewed negatively by conservatives... No side is immune.

Not a liberal here...but I love to stereotype conservatives. You guys sound the same, talk the same, dress the same, drink the same, because you guy never do any drugs, say the same things, you guys even high five when you agree with each other... you guys are so predictable that stereotyping is like a sure thing.

My friends, double speak at its finest. . .

Not to mention a lot of nothing.

I answer a question in the vain that it is asked. If someone is being accusing of another, then I will "lump them in" with the group that I think they "fit" into. I am guilty of stereotyping, but I will not agree with judging all conservatives in the same way. I don't think that everyone belonging to a group is the same - that would be unintelligent to think that everyone with a certain label is the same as the "ideal". And anyone that would really do that is not someone that could intelligently argue their viewpoint in a debate.

Hense, that is why you choose to stereotype liberals without shame.

I cannot speak for ALL liberals - but I will speak for myself.
I do not try to stereotype all conservatives. I have openly confronted liberals in this forum who do.
The accusations you make are fair of some but certainly not all.
But to reverse the question - since you openly admit to being in favour of using stereotypes (and have the gall to speak on behalf of all conservatives when you say what "conservatives" do or do not approve of) - why does it offend you when people consider you typical of those you claim to represent?

uh....EVERYONE has their own stereotypes about people. For most people, stereotyping is a subconscious thing. If you are trying to imply that Liberals are hypocrites, why don't you say that, instead of asking a silly question. (For the record, I am not a Conservative or a liberal)

They stereotype conservatives for the same reason conservatives stereotype liberals. You can't be a conservative if you don't believe in stereotypical ideals, and the same for liberals.

If you think about it, what i just wrote makes sense, doesn't it?

OK so you ask a question saying Liberals stereotype republicans and then you go on to sterotype liberals. Nice job.

Alright I stand corrected. Conservatives think sterotyping is fine. That is good to know.

Both sides, liberals and conservatives, are guilty of stereotyping the other.
