No, not comets in particular, although they have been regarded as "omens" throughout most of history, as (of course) have eclipses. I think it comes down to the fact that we understand them, in the past, people didn't. You often idolise what you can't explain.

Happenings in nature are often, signs of the times, and they some-times signify the birth, presence or the future arrival of gifted and important people. The signs of wind, fire, water signified the presence of both God and his son Jesus Christ. At the time of Jesus Christ's birth, a comet appeared in the sky, which was followed by three astrologers/ kings from the East who studied the stars, and who knew that this special sight in the sky, sent forth a message that the saviour of all mankind, had been born into this world.

No, I know what a comet is and I have no fear if the path of the comet does not lead to a collision with Earth.
