My WIFE, knows all to well, how you feel. I was deployed for ONLY six months during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. CNN back then Reported, much like now....all the negative.
So much bad news huh??
The best thing to do is concentrate on the Good. Our boys, our Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors.........are doing good. Rarely do we see the pictures our of brothers in Arms helping the poor in Baghdad, giving food to those who need it. Pictures of Soldiers who give up their very Coats, to those who are cold........................
May God Richly Bless you and your husband with Protection, continued Grace and Love.
And thank you for releasing your husband to do a job that in the end, people like me will ALWAYS HONOR.

Ever since this war in Iraq, I avoid reading the paper and watching the news for just that reason. My nephew is in Texas finishing his training in the air force and he will be deployed this fall... my stomach just turns into knots when I really think about it. You must feel it more than anyone. These are dark times. But I have to believe the light is coming, one way or another. There is still so much good in the world. It just doesn't get the same press. Our soldiers are doing so much more over there than "killing people", as some would have us all believe. Look there for the goodness. It's a start.

You are so right! The news does seem to focus on the bad and not so much on the good. So, yes, it does depress me at times! Makes me feel as though I cannot get away from all the bad...not even in solitude.
Like you, I have limited my time watching the news as I would rather be doing something positive in my life...at the least!

I cry when I watch it at times because I think wow, I got it bad and I've been going thru a great deal of stress as of late, but then I look at people with flooding in Texas now, the fires in South Carolina, the tornados in Florida, the warring in Iraq where babies and children (people) are losing their lives at an alarming rate.
I cry a lot because I hate to see them suffer. The news does depress me but there are some things I need to watch it for.

I try to not watch the news. They show the worst of everything just to get people's attention. They also lead to more crime.
For instance, when someone commits suicide they televise it, then when someone else hears it, they think it's a good idea, so they do it. There is a technical term, but I forget what it is.
Criminals also use it. When they say "The biggest mass murder in history" they find it as a challenge.
So yes, the news depresses me.

All the "news" IS- is information coming in from the 4 corners of the World (North-East-West-South. !). We can take it- or leave it. By it's very nature- it's usually bad, because that's the kind that attracts most people's attention. It CAN be "depressing" if you take it to "heart"... -But so can ANYTHING, if you take life too seriously. Look at it from THIS perspective; It's a shame there's so much bad news. But you have God to thank- that none of it is about YOU. :)

I've isolated myself in a sprawling Swiss farm miles from nowhere; you don't even see more than 3 cars passing through all day. I don't see the odd newspaper in the German language (haven't studied it) nor do I watch their TV program (not even once!).
Cut off from the world, I worked and lived with the Swiss family for a good 3 months before returning to media-blitzed London, England - this blessed seclusion from world news together with the goodness of farm living conspired to affect me deeply; it was one of the most profound and personal experiences ever - it's incommunicable, exhilirating and joyous beyond anything I've ever felt.
Why do I need to know which President does what to which country? Do I have to be informed that so-and-so embezzled millions from the local bank?
I choose NOT to be informed (watch the news) NOT because they depress me but because I don't need to know. I really don't!!

I'll keep you and your husband in my prayers.
I, too, find the news depressing. Bad, upsetting
news gets top air time because we, as a society,
want to hear about that type of news. It is sad.
I usually switch to Law and Order when the news
comes on. At least Law and Order is entertaining.

The news that sells is bad news, I find it depressing also. Here in Saigon the Europeans don't like to talk world problems they come here to get away from it. Feel bad but there is nothing I can do to stop the killing and suffering.

yes it does depress me. our U.S. news is saying absolutely nothing! Go to Europe or some other country and they actually talk about things that matter, like NoT paris hilton. There are ppl in far worse situations rather than the little car that got turned up on Highway 85.
