Just tape it. That's what a doctor would do. There is nothing else to be done for a broken toe. Oh, stay off it as much as possible.

I broke my little pinkie toea few weeks ago. I can understand that you are tired and painful of it. The doctor told me that I might want to tape it to the next toe. There is one thing that you need to watch out for. First you stumped your toe and probably shouted a "few graphic words. right". At first, your toe will begin to swell and bruise, It is so painful, even allowing a sheet go sliding across it. It also depends on the length and shape of your toe to begin with. You could tape it to the next toe, but personally, It was more painful to me with the tape on than with it off. I have short little stubby toes, My Dad used to laugh at them and the little odd shaped nubby toes. Anyway to get back- if you decide to ice it. Remember the rule. a barrier under the ice to protect your skin. also remember to use ice 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. If you are seeing that the bone sticking into places that it does not look normal to you and the position of the bones are slipping down to the bottom of the toe, the are next to where the toe grows to the foot, The pain is seeming to be more from different places. Then you would probably consult you doctor or request an x-ray. It may indicate that the toe is dislocated, even so he would give you a profession treatment plan. Fortunately for most people have odd looking or as I like to describe, unique. As someone has already advised you, you may want to wear more comforteable shoes or something like the good old flip-flows, they could be not so well, unless you are very good at manuevering, so that you donot trip because they are not rhe best, but they will be more comfortable. Please donot "crack it back and forth, not only is it gross-sounding, you could cause more damage and it most likely cause more pain and it seems to take more time for it to heal. So- please donot crack it back and forth, buddy tape it if it helps to decrease the pain. Ice helps if used properly and, if you are really painful, or just call the doctor on the telephone for suggestions for treatment.. Remember it is going to take like it seems forever, but it will heal I hope that the answer gives you some comfort. I have read other answers and some of them give you very good informatio. Take care!

Even if it is broken...your parents are right....not much they can do for a pinky toe. Your original inclinations are right on....buddy tape it and if swelling is present you can ice it...otherwise icing is not really necessary. Take some ibuprofen or Tylenol for the discomfort and ....it might be a good idea to wear some slippers or shoes that will keep you from re-stubbing it again and again.

Of course, if you really want to know if you broke it or not, you will need to
get it checked out. If it is broken, they may tape it to the toe next to it (perhaps
that is what you mean by "buddy tape it").
If my toe hurt that much, I surely would be doing something! Ice, the doctor,
something.......I do not like pain! OUCH!
I hope you find relief soon!
All the best to you!

Just buddy tape it and try to avoid too much weight bearing. There's really nothing a doctor can do for a broken toe unless it's bad enough to require internal hardware or it's pain meds you're after.

It's true. there is nothing a doctor will do for you but put it in a stint. grab a popsicle stick and cut it down and then tape it so that the bone will heal straight. get some advil and try not to stub it again :) good luck!

everyone i know with one...they just taped it to the next toe....so try wrapping it to the next toe and wearing shoes that won't let you stub it again. take tylenol for the pain. keep it elevated to keep the swelling down and put ice on it for a few minutes.

i broke the second and third toe on my left foot once. there isnt a damn thing they can do about it unless like...the bone is sticking out or something. its really to small to put a cast on, same with a spint. its gonna hurt like hell for a while so try and keep your weight off of it as much as possible. if you have a crutch, hobble around on that. ice helps the pain.

Get it checked out -- but taping it to the toe next to it is the best thing you can do for it.

You'll be fine, dont worry. If its broken, there is nothing a nurse can do. Just wait another week, and your toe will be fine. Maybe brace it with something, or wrap it to protect against bashing it into stuff. Good luck!
