What's the point of living when you know you're just going to die? Get the most out of life that you can while you are stuck in your meat puppet. You love to get the stream flowing. It doesn't seem like it now, but you will be loved in return. Maybe not in the way you expect, or even have learned to value yet, but there is love out there waiting for you. We have to empty out a little bit of ourselves first to make room for it, but it's out there.

Who says you get no love in return? Mind you, if you're expecting love in return, then you might have a problem.
Love was intended to be unconditional. You give love, the right kind of love, and it doesn't matter whether or not it is returned. Once you put expecations on love, then it isn't really love anymore.

Love is an emotion. In our culture, we make the mistake of confusing behaviours or actions as love -- they are not. Of course, this leads to very unpleasant feelings.
More people have had sleepless nights, teary nights and just outright sadness over confusing actions for feelings.
Unfortunately, it's a lesson that many people spend years learning, or worse yet, never learn over their life time.
Feeling unloved is a problem of perception, not of the actions of others.

I love hearing the rain.
I love smelling the hot dog vender at a ballgame.
I love seeing my family playing together in the yard.
I love touching the tree that I once chased my cousins around.
I love singing Elvis in the shower when I know noone is at home.

What is love for you? Is loving another only worth it if you get something back for yourself? So that you feel good. This means your love for the other person is as such only love for yourself, as you want yourself to profit from it, you want yourself to be more happy or feel better.
If you truly love somebody you do it for this person, with no expectation of getting something back. You want this other person to be happy even if this love is not returned and you do not get a thing. This is love.

I am assuming you are speaking about a romantic relationship, and not love of mankind or something nauseatingly nebulous like that; if so, there isn't one, as you already know. How many poems, books, murders, suicides, runaways, maturation, gains of wisdom, etc. etc. have happened because of unrequited love? Lots, get over it.

This is like saying, why brush your teeth when there is nothing to eat. You know why? Because your gums will bleed, your teeth will rot out and die. The same process is what your soul will go through if you choose to shut your self off from the warmth of love.

You just haven't come across someone who shares your love, it is better to have loved and lost then not to have loved at all!
