Simple - replace the value of the variable (r = 6) into the equation.

0.4r = 0.4 x 6 = 2.4
1.6 - 1.2 =0.4
0.8+3.7 = 4.5

1) 0.4r is the same as saying 0.4 x 6. The answer is 2.4

2) 1.6 - g is the same as saying 1.6 - 1.2. The answer is 0.4

3) 0.8 + h is the same as saying 0.8 + 3.7. The answer is 4.5.

All of these operations can be done with pencil and paper in the same manner as regular math, just adding in the decimals in the correct place.

Substitute the #'s for the variables.

1. 0.4r=.4(6)=2.4

2. 1.6-g=1.6-1.2=.4

3. .8+h=.8+3.7=4.5

0.4r = (0.4*6) = 2.4

1.6-g = (1.6-1.2) = 0.4

0.8+h = ( 0.8+3.7) = 4.5

1. Wherever you see a "r" plug in 6. So, (0.4)(6), which equals 2.4

2. Plug in 1.2 wherever you see a "g", so: 1.6-1.2 which equals 0.4

3. Plug in 3.7 wherever you see a "h". So 0.8+3.7 which equals 4.5

when a letter that represents a number is ever next to another number... that means that they will multiply together.
1.0.4 x 6=2.4 or 0.4(6) its the same thing
2.1.6-1.2=0.4
3.0.8+3.7=4.5
