i have a 6 month old puppy who scratches a lot. I give him a flea and tick shampoo every week and I was using Hartz spot on as well but i dont know if it came off after the bath or not. What should I use for fleas? I know stuff like frontline and advantage is good but when i go through his hair with a flea comb i'll only find like 1 or two so is there anything else that works almost like advantage and frontline? I also have 2 cats, both dont have fleas but i want to put something on them to stay protected, what should I use for them?

Advantage and Frontline are the safest because they don't get absorbed into the bloodstream and affect the liver and kidneys. Hartz is a terrible product and we see cats with seizures from it often. You have to treat all the pets in the household at the same time, otherwise you'll never get rid of the fleas. Bathing might only kill some of the fleas, but new ones will be hatching out every day. Try not to bathe so often and just use Advantage or Frontline.

Go to the vet to get something for the dog and for the cats. You also need to sprinkle some powder down on the bedding to kill the eggs, and may need to treat outside.

I have a Golden Retriever and Advantage kills ALL fleas in a day or two, so your pup may be picking up new fleas from the cats or from elsewhere.... so, treat the areas as well as the animals.
