please help me answer this: estimate the error that results when the square root of (1+x) is replaced by 1+ 1/

I don't know what "replaced by 1+ 1/ " this part of you question means.

But I think you are refering to a variant of the power
series that is represented by (1+x)^-1.

If you have your calculus textbook, there should be a section
on the remainder estimation theorem and the Lagrange error bound that might help.
