Remember that anyone is a potential "customer" (depending on what your trade is). Confidence is the best and most important selling point!
From a business standpoint, you can sell anything to anyone. You just have to know how to convince them that they need it. Are you selling a business/service that you yourself would purchase? If not, back to the drawing board. It wouldn't make sense to sell someone something you don't like - you wouldn't seem convincing at all.
Creativity is another important characteristic you could work on. I.e., telling someone to buy a piece of lint because it is soft and fluffy wouldn't do much for you. But, if you think of telling someone who installs carpet that that particular piece of lint is the perfect anti-static electricity 'thing' - well, you would at least have their attention.
So, confidence and creativity. Convince people that they need what you are selling. Customers will buy just about anything if you give them the idea. No offense to any customers out there!
