You should go to the Court House and they should be able to look up your marriage and divorce if there is one. If not where you are now, you may have to go to the state that you were married in.

I worked for a Family Law firm for a few years. I am able to download the forms and instructions right from the court web site (I live in Arizona). Do a search and see if you can find Superior Court in your county or state. Because this is all public information (all divorces are), you should be able to look it up, call the court and ask for help, or go down to the court yourself and ask. Legally he should have notified you in some way if he filed for divorce and you should have been served legal documents or at least received something in the mail.

well all you have to do is go the county clerks office in your local town or better yet in his town. divorce decrees are public records and the fee to get a copy is nominal, depending on the state. Some states will let you look in the court files for free and then all you have to do is copy it. Another place to check is the Social Security Administration. If you get a divorce he shouldn't be using your ssn also try the irs and see if he is filing single or married. They will give you generic information such as he is filing single.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you looking to divorce him? If so then get the paperwork from where you live and do the divorce by yourself in the court. Attach to your documents that you left him and show proof of the last time you had lived there with him. If you had anything in joint names and he didn't make payment then you owe the bill so I'd suggest you put a notice in the newspaper saying that you are not responsible for his bills, name him, put when last you lived there and in what year. Then start your divorce papers in court. You will have to try to locate him so you can send your divorce papers to him at his former address (they will probably be returned to you...keep those for the proof in court). You should also ask the post office from that last known address if they can provide to you a forwarding address and send a copy of those divorce papers to him at that new address as well. You must prove that you tried to contact him, so everything must be sent certified mail return receipt requested. So say that those papers too are returned to you, show that envelope to the judge (always make copies of all papers you send out plus return envelopes you receive). Ok, say your papers aren't returned to you...I think it's 30 days but may be longer (read the court forms you get from the courthouse) that you have to wait allowing him time to respond. If he doesn't respond in a reasonable length of time then you go ahead with getting the divorce on your own. Remember to take all your info to the courthouse on the day of your appointment as the judge will ask for it. Your costs will be court fees, costs for your letters and postage and return receipt form, and copy costs.

If you have a marriage license somewhere in a box, you had better make that your mission and find it. But you can't do this cheaply. Marriage is a contract and contracts are binding (hence all the people who are on Answers complaining about their 'fiancees' who they have been living with for 10 years and have 3 kids with!) and for that reason they have lots of ramifications in your life. So do it right. See an attorney and just get it done.
