To be sure of actually erasing files, you need to use an electronic shredder. (File Shredder 2.0) There is one free one, I have tried it recently, and CNet editors give it a pretty good review.

Get it from download.com. (They have commercial or retail products there, too.)

You need a program that will write random data on top of the real file so that a simple undelete cant restore them. There are a few good tools on the market. One I have used is Ace Utilities by AceLogix. They have a 30 day eval that is fully functional, which should work fine if you are trying to get rid of the computer or the drive. There are some free programs out there, but I have not had the chance to really get in there to see if they work as advertised.

It can still be recovered.
to completely destroy a file, use a date-shredding program such as Digital File Shredder from StompSoft if you have $30 to spare. it makes a conventional "erase" a step further by actually writing over the file.

Good question and I am here to help...

Try this...

Bottom left, click on start....then SETTINGS.........then CONTROL PANEL....

see if you have an icon named INTERNET OPTIONS...if so, double click (or single click if that is your current mouse setting)....

In the GENERAL Tab, in the middle, it says TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES......click on DELETE FILES...

You can also DELETE COOKIES, in case it stored your password in any websites you went in the past...

I hope this helps and it qualifies for a BEST answer...

Email me if you are having problems...
