Pretty much they demolished the Cavs. And the rest of the teams.

they are the best team because there starting 5 works together they check their ego's at the locker room and they genuinely get along with each other. Duncan is considered their star but he just acts like a regular guy that is going to work he does his job and comes home and you never see anyone from thier team getting into trouble (except duncan with the crazy ref) you dont see them in the news. they keep it simple and they stick to the game plan.

It all starts with a guy from a small island named TIM DUNCAN.

He's the anchor offensively & defensively of the most successful Pro Franchise over the last decade in all major North American Sports (NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL).

Add to that their coaching staff led by Head Coach Greg Popovich which successfully built a team around TD giving a premium on character & professionalism above talent (not to say that they don't have talent coz obviously they do).

Pop has molded this team to reflect his no nonsense straight shooter attitude.

Everybody on the team gets along, nobody whines or gripes, they are good citizens on & off the court and most of all they never take the game for granted.

They stick to the fundamentals. No they are not a very exciting team to watch, but they get the job done. They have such a strong built team, which isn't centered around one superstar, but some very good players that are surrounded by guys that know their role, and produce very well within that role, then they have a great coach, and obviously great management if they have managed to keep these great guys for so long as well as pick up new great ones as well.

Tim Duncan and Greg Popovich

But I gotta say I don't think destroying the Cavs is saying much, the Cavs aren't a very good team

5 reasons why

1. They play DEFENSE! the most important thing in basketball
2. They have great team chemistry. Whenever a teammate makes a mistake or makes a great play their teammates are always congratulating or encouraging them.
3. Tim Duncan. The most underrated big man. Future Hall of Famer.
4. Great coach in Popovich who knows how to get the best out of his players.
5. Extremely humble team. Dosen't let all the talk about a dynasty and praise by experts get to their heads. Not cocky but confident.

They play great team offense and defence.
They have a great coach who treats all players the same, whether they're the franchise or not.
The owner allows his front office to do their job.
Duncans leadership in the locker room ensures there's no ego's.
They drafted wisely with Parker and Ginobili.
They trust that Bowen will do his job.
They have an unbelievable bench (Barry, Ginobili/Finlay, Horry, Vaughn)
They don't get caught up in their own hype (just imagine how some young stars would cope with winning)

Thats easily because they have the best damn GM in the league in Pop. Hes an OK coach but he is an awesome GM. Other than picking up Duncan which was a no brainer, he has build the team on hte backs of veterans and underrated player. Look at their roster its like a collection of former All Stars. Another one of his atributes is drafting smart. He picked parker 29th overall and Ginobilli 57th over all. Can you imagine? LOastly his work ethic and no nonsence attitude. He takes no bull$hit and keeps players in their places.

I don't think their a dominant team. They just play great playoff ball. They also have a well balanced team on both ends of the court. It's hard to find that in todays game. Most teams are either offensive or defensive & the spurs are both.

They play basketball the way it's suppose to be played. It's a team game and they emphasize the word TEAM. Having three great players helps out a lot. Along with veteran role players who know exactly what their role is.

Because, as Larry Brown loves to say, they play "the right way". There are no superstars on that team and every player from 1 to 12 knows what their role is and plays it to the letter. They've got just one goal and that is to WIN.
