Child support because he is the father. Alimony I guess because the child is to young to her to work.

Alimony is paid when you have been married for a certain amount of time (usually 5-7 years in most states) and can prove you cannot live within the same "means" you did while you were married. But alimony is temporary, not forever. Child support, because even though they have joint custody, the one with the child most of the time gets support to help put a roof over that kid's head, and clothes on their back, and food in their stomachs. You donate half the dna, you donate half the dough. If he, however, kept the kids half of each week, probably neither would have to pay, but it'd have to go through the courts. You'd just be responsible for the kids while you had them. I'm a mother who gladly pays child support to make sure my kids have everything they need and more. It's my JOB.

As a divorced father I know this well...
He must follow the ruling of the court...which uses a formula of his earnings vs how much time he spends with the kids. Alimony is also awarded based on how much he made during his marriage.
If he returns to court, and requests more time with his kids...his child support will go down. At any time his ex re-marries, his alimony will end...but she can live with anyone and your boyfriend will still have to pay.
It doesn't matter who ended the marriage...the court rules on what it deems best for the children...and who has the most persuasive lawyer!

If they LEGALLY have joint custody, he shouldn't have to pay child support. Both parents are responsible for half the expenses for the kids. Do they really live with you HALF the time? That does mean though...that he has to pay his half. Alimony isn't related to child support. If they were married and the circumstances allow for her to collect alimony in their state...it makes absolutely no difference WHO ended the marriage. My husband has to give half of his military retirement to his ex-wife even though she's re-married to ANOTHER retired serviceman. It's a crock.

If he is the biological Father of his ex-wife's children, he has to pay child support by court order...As if they were together, he had to support his children, and now that they are divorced, she may have went to court and since they have joint custody, the judge may have made a decision for child support payments based on his income...There is nothing you can do about it... Now if he doesn't pay the payments suggested..It will increase and it won't matter how old the child is...they can be 35 years old and he would still have to pay until the debt is paid

Child support because both parents are responsible for the child. Alimony because he supported her or at least made the majority of the money. No one should have to stay with someone because they can't afford to leave, so alimony doesn't depend on who ended things.

Because the judge said so. Child support is awarded based on income and time spent with each parent. Alimony also called Maintenance is awarded based on prior standard of living of the couple and the duration of the marriage in most states.

Because he has to support his kid no matter what! He may be divorced but he is still a father. He pays alimony because it takes 2 people to get a divorce. He and his wife broke their vows now they both have to face the consequences.

He has to pay because the court ordered him too. You should stay out of that part of his life. It may bite you in the end.
