The White House isn't pro-amnesty because it wants to "appease" liberals, or because it wants to be considerate of Mexicans. It's pro-amnesty because illegal immigrants work for figures that a regular American would never work for. I don't understand why some conservatives on YA think that pro-amnesty is a liberal idea. It may be among many liberals, however, it's primarily an idea that big business supports...like all of the factory farmers in the midwest who need cheap $3/hour labor. It's quite simple actually: There's alot more profit when you're paying a worker 5 times less than a regular worker. And that's something that the big corporations like...

So, stop whining about how you dislike Bush because he's appeasing liberals. He's not, he's just appeasing his corporate farmer friends down south who need the cheap workers.

Who else agrees with this?

And don't anyone say that the government doesn't like illegal immigration. Because if that were the case, there wouldn't be 12+ million illegal immigrants in the United States.

I'm not trying to bash the Bush administration with this question either. Clinton deserves partial blame because those 12 million illegals didn't all come in in the last 7 years.

Gemini, Latinos tend to vote Democrat, more than they do Republican. Look it up.

It use to be the other way around though but after the 2006 Senate/House election, the stats show that Latinos are leaning Democrat more now.

When you think about it, both the Republicans and Democrats (the politicians) benefit from illegal immigration. Of course, the legal American public doesn't, but why should they matter?

It's true. American's like cheap labor. If we were serious about stopping illegal immigration we would go after employers who hire illegals and actually deport people we catch. Big business has been a bigger stumbling block to immigration reform that liberals.

Democrats primarily want unskilled people who will depend on government handouts so they can buy their vote with the hard earned money of the citizens. Some republicans are afraid of offending anybody and loosing potential voters. Some especially stupid people think they will willingly pay for them in their retirement. Some politicians think it might make Social Security last longer without drastic cuts. Most everybody benefits from the lower wage except those that have theirs lowered as well.

I don't think cheap labor is important except to some industries and it doesn't justify making them legal. They can work on visas. The reason they want them legal is to buy votes.

Your argument is hard to debate simply because it's quite obvious that for what ever reasons Bush supports this bill, it certainly ISN'T because he's trying to appease the liberals. This would be completely out of character and extremely improbable.
So I conclude, you make an excellent assumption as to why we have left the door unlocked for so long. Now it's come back and is starting to bite the taxpayers - unintended consequences rearing it's ugly head perhaps?

Yes. I think Bush has made a big mistake on the Immigration Reform Bill but that is not the thing he has done that leans liberal. His push for huge increases in biofuels, such as ethanol, is prompting the oil industry to scale back its plans for refinery expansions. That could keep gasoline prices high, possibly for years to come. Explain that one.

Amnesty should not be a left or right question, it should be a matter of right or wrong, so let's just call it wrong! That would make it a bi-partisan issue and most American (80%) could agree...

Government conqures us by dividing us, wise up!

PS if dems were against it they could squash it...
