My favorite remake was actually never released on a CD or any other media... it was something I saw a band do in concert a couple of years ago.

A friend of mine got free tickets to see The Knack at the local theater, and asked me to go along... I figured, "what the heck" and went to hang out. About halfway through the set, they started playing "Tequila" by the Champs with just the guitars... no sax. Right about the time everyone was really getting into the groove they were laying down, the audience began to realize that the singer had started with the lyrics for "Break On Through" by the Doors. Once the whole scam was revealed, and the audience caught on ,the place went berserk.

As for my favorite remake that made it to vinyl, I would ahve to say it is either Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit, Come Sail Away by Cartman (Ok, OK... I know...), or Rough Silk's version of Take a Chance On Me (originally done by Abba)

Jimi Hendrix remake of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" The best remake ever!!
Other great ones are:

Van Halen's remake of "You Really Got Me' by The Kinks

George Michaels remake of Elton John "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me"... also happens to be Micheal Jackson's favorite song only he means "Your Son" ;-)

Joe Cocker remake of The Beatles " A Little Help From My Friends"

Many from the king of covers - Joe Cocker - here are four of his that come to mind:

She came in through the bathroom window - Beatles
With a little help from my friends - Beatles
Unchain my heart - Ray Charles
The Letter - Boxtops

My all time favorite cover though, one that I think is MUCH better than the original (and I generally like the Boss) is Blinded By the Light by Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

The Cardigans did a remake of Iron Man. It wasn't popular on the radio, but I like it. I have there CD. It is a few years old. Good remake, though.
