I don't know which is more important, but I can tell you which is easier. It's easier for me to let go and I have let go of many things in my life especially relationships (boyfriends, girlfriends and family).
I suppose in my case letting go is a form of giving in or giving up.
When did I hold on? Yes, I did hold on when I moved to Israel from the States. It was very difficult being an immigrant and I could have left when the going got tough, but I stuck it out and I am happy I did.

I place importance on letting go first and holding on most......
I have let go of many expectations, assumptions and judgments connected with my self, loved ones and situations.
In letting go in these awarenesses I have the opportunity to be objective. To have a 'big picture' view of the scenario.
once I am able to 'see' clearly...I can hold on confidently to truth, love, understanding...until it no longer serves the highest good....time to let go again, so that I can discern the essence to hold onto again for a time...........
I have human needs to feel secure accepted and authentic...holding on to reality, love, understanding, etc. gives my life meaning.

Holding on, I think is more important, because in life to accomplish something great, one must be able to hold on to something dispite everything else. Letting go might be essential in some situations, but letting go is just a means to holding on to something better. However if you can hold on, then whatever it is, you will acheive it, and reap great rewards.

You must hold on before you are able to let go. I feel it takes more to understand what and how you hold on to, letting go is more of an involuntary action then holding on. I have never been forced to hold on (love), BUT I have been forced to let go of that love.

It is harder to hold on than to let go. Holding on needs continual effort and attention to persevere but letting go is to relieve from sufferings or maybe avoiding responsibility. Ask yourself : which actually helps to build your character ?

You need to have a comfertable balance, you cant let go of things that shape you to being you. but you cant hold on and dwell on the negative. You have to find your comfort zone. I think all of our comfort zones are pre-disposed too, btw. So you are perfect in that way, that pain is something you want to let go, but it will go.

Letting go.
Holding on is to suffer in the events of the past.
Holding on is to suffer in states such as anger, depression and guilt.
Holding on is to cling and be needy.
Holding on is to exclude the present and the future as the past is clung to endlessly.
Holding on is to keep yourself from enjoying today and what can happen next.
