The NSA has been doing things like that since they formed. It's been going on even before them for the past 100 years when telegraph companies made deals to let the government spy on us, like the telephone companies and ISPs today.

That's what intelligence agencies do. USA Today acts like it's a new thing. Nonsense. You can get a book on the NSA from the early 80's like "The Puzzle Palace" and just read the book description on Amazon. Or buy it and see how long this has been happening.

Electronic spying has been around a long time. All that's changed is the way they spy on us. Another book is "Crypto" which deals with encryption and why the NSA fought better email encryption the whole way.
