If i sign a lease to an apartment and halfway through my lease someone wants to move in with me...is that possible? Do they then have to sign the lease as well.....how does that work?

At the apartment complexes I worked at, we did request all roommates be on the lease. We would check their credit and references and if they were fine, they would sign the lease. If they did not sign the lease they had absolutely no rights to the apartment. For example, they could not call in repair requests or be given a key without the leaseholder's permission. And if they caused any trouble, the leaseholder would be held liable. But just be sure this is the policy before you move in so if you want a roommate later on you'll know exactly what to do.

Most landlords/management firms will desire to have you add the additional person to the lease for its duration. It gives the landlord an extra level of financial security in terms of rent payments and options, should either of you decide to break the lease.
