I honestly believe there are portals for time travel and that the ghosts we see are actually time travelers. The reason they look like ghosts (transparent, floating, etc.) is because they can't have a solid form in a different time dimension than their own. I know a lot of people would think I'm nuts to believe something like this...and it's not something I've read or the result of some movie I've watched. It's an intuitive feeling.
