What is wrong with this story?

Question

John was walking towards his office on the sidewalk when suddenly he heard a gunshot. The police found him dead on the sidewalk one hour after the incident. They concluded that the bullet had hit his head and he died on impact. The police also caught the man responsible for the crime and acquired the high-powered rifle used in the crime.
What is wrong with this story?

if he died on impact he could not have heard the shot.


edit. the "crack" of a high powered rifle is actually a little sonic boom because the bullet is going faster then sound. . the bullet reached john before the sound did.

John did not hear the gunshot if the bullet was a direct hit penetrating the skull. That has not been established. The police captured a male suspect they believe responsible for the crime. It is not established whether or not the high-powered rifle was the weapon used in this crime. If the bullet was recovered, ballastic testing should determine if the rifle seized by police was used in the crime. The suspect could have used another weapon, or there could have been an accomplice to the crime, not apprehended. There is no evidence presented whether or not the bullet penetrated his head. If John were grazed by the bullet, he may have heard the shot, was stunned, fell to the sidewalk, and death followed after his impacting the sidewalk.

As other have said the fact that he "heard a gunshot" would not make sense. The shot from the high-powered rifle would have hit him before he heard the sound. Since it also says that he "died on impact" that would indicate that he would not have heard the shot.

Also I find it wrong that the "police found him dead on the sidewalk and HOUR later". I would think that someone would have seen him before then and the police would have been there but I supposed under very specific conditions this might not be the case.

Ohhh. How did he report the fact that he heard the gunshot if he was found dead an hour later? Who did he tell? He wouldn't have had time to tell anyone he heard a shot if it was concluded that he died on impact.

I don't think that if you are shot in the head, you would head much of anything. Also, he died on impact? That just ain't right. Now, if the bullet just grazed him and he fell to the sidewalk and died on impact with the sidewalk, thats another story. But, I am sure your going to let us in on this little riddle.
