will fake decoratoins such as stuff for a freshwater tank that they sell at walmart hurt my tank and/or fish?, like a rubber anenonmea? does anyone know and stores that sell fake decorations that would look good in a saltwater tank? like petco or anything or a website? like, fake corals and stuff. will the fake corals and decorations affect my water parameters?

thanks

As long as you get ones that are made for aquarium use, they'll be safe for either fresh or saltwater.

I bought several of the fake anemone types for use in quarantine tanks because they're easy to clean, don't require the lighting that "real" ones do, aren't affected by medications, and just to offer hiding places for fish until they clear quarantine. I was really surprised to find a pair of clownfish (tank bred ocellaris) that actually "adopted" a large saddle anemone replica, so I kept it with them.

Petco and Petsmart both sell them, and you can see they types each has on their store websites, but this site probably has a larger overall selection: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/cat/info/22958/category.web

I'd actually advise you to find a local store that carries there, or will order them for you, as shipping costs will increase the prices of the products bought online.

petsupplies Plus, Petco and Petsmart all sell fake corals for tanks in many different colors. these look so cool and add so much depth to a fresh water aquarium. they are great in salt as well. Yep they also sell rubber anemone, fake clams and oysters. I've even seen an eel heat that uses an air tube to open its mouth and move its eyes. You can also try the webpage below. If they are selling decorations for tanks, they should be safe for both however ASK since copper attachments like chains on chests are a nono in a salt tank.

I have never heard of them being dangerous to the animal life, but in salt water tanks you can actually get live coral, and real seashells to put in it. Also clown fish love real anemones. salt water tanks are a lot more expensive to run anyways to go ahead and spend a few more dollars and put the real stuff in.
