Not a novel question, my friend. I've seen and heard this one over many years and there is no answer to it. I see it a great deal in this forum. It's as if everyone thinks that if they have an idea they'll be transformed magically and suddenly into successful authors.
Sorry, but there is much more to it than an idea -- no matter where it comes from, no matter how good it is.
But, out of deference to you, I'll give you a great idea.
Your main character decides he/she would like to be an author. Who knows why? I guess it's a moot point. He/she just does, okay? He/she gets into a forum, much like this one, and asks, "I really need some help coming up with ideas for writing a novel!!?
Lo and behold and as luck would have it, someone there on a dark and stormy night gives him/her a terrific idea and the rest is, well, history. What do you think about that, huh?

Oh! Gosh, I have so many ideas I do not think I will live long enough to write most of them. In order to write a novel you need a passion, about some subject that means much to you. Think back when you were growing up, what shocked you, what interested you, what were your ambitions? What was your biggest disappointment in life. What was the most exciting thing that ever happened to you? What scared the heck out of you?
I do not know how old you are, or what you have to offer as a writer, what have you done, want to do, and can do? What do you want to share with the world? Have you something to tell that we would need, care to hear?

Well my current idea is a series, and the first book was sparked while I was watching Angel. I then later got more inspiration from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as Supernatural. For all three books, these shows inspire me. And I've even got a little inspiration from The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle as well. Tv shows inspire me, and the closer they are to what I'm writing, the more inspiring they are to me. BQ: Are there any names you refuse to use in a novel, for whatever reason, whether they be your own or something else? Well I of course will never use my own name. And this is going to sound absolutely ridiculous, but I'll never use my most favorite names in the world because I want to save them in case I one day have children. And once I use the name, I associate it when a certain character and personality. I'll also never use names that have apostrophe's in them because it's really annoying to read and spell out, and I'll never use really weird spellings of names. BQ2: Your character is doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for them to throw out? What is difficult for them to part with? Why? My characters have almost nothing. They wouldn't do spring cleaning because they just don't have a lot of junk. While in the second book, they make a ton of money, they still don't buy aimless things. BQ3: Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where are they going? What do they wear? Who will they be with? She's probably going to the graveyard, wearing dark clothes, and she's probably going with the other three main characters.

Usually you should come up with an idea before you decide to make a novel out of it. It sounds like you just want to write a novel for no good reason, and want ideas, which is somewhat backwards from how it should work.
But if you just want something to get the creative juices flowing, here's a link that can give you some vague starting points: http://www.seventhsanctum.com/index-writ.php

Thats easy just think about what u like sum it up and put it down on paper then read it if it sounds good then thats it.For me to tell u exactly what to write wont be good for u,because everyone have there own views on what to write, think about the type of story u want to write is it an action, horror, romance, adult,I personally enjoy reading detective books with a mixture of horror, adult and action those are the great books, authors like stephen king writes some nice novels, sir arthur conan doyle writes some great mysteries too, there also alot of other great writers but why not read one of them and try to figure out what kind of a person these authors are,u know the books are mostly based on an authors personality what u have to do is figure out yours.just look at the books u have in your collection and u will know what your personality is like.
good luck with it i am willing to help read a sample when ever u are finished with it contact me at: maclove103@yahoo.com

If you've got no experience in creative writing, maybe you should consider starting off with some short stories. Just to get the feel of things. It's real easy to get lost when jumping into something as ambitious as a novel.

I've thought about writing a novel myself from time to time....
If I were you, I would write about what you know.....your life. Not an autobiography, but a story based loosely on your life. That way, as you write, you will have some knowledge about what you are writing about, but you can still take some liberties to add some spice to the story....
Bottom line: write about what you know because when authors try to write about something they are not familiar with, it becomes a terrible novel....

If you dont have ideas, perhaps you should reconsider your decision to write a novel. An author's ideas are their intellectual property. We use them to write our own stories. If you wish to have someone collaborate with you and help you with a story you have to pay them for their efforts - either as a co-writer or as an editor. Nobody gives ideas away for free. It amazes me that people come here seeking ideas to write books. If you have no ideas, what makes you think you should write a novel? Pax - C
