Apparently you've been reading Stephen Leavitt's "Freakonomics". An eminent economist, he researched the matter and found that the owner of a swimming pool is about 100 times more likely to have a child die in the pool than a gun owner is to have a child die from his gun.
___He also researched the efficacy of airbags, and found that they make a mere 2-4% difference in the traffic-accident fatality rate (3% of 42,000 is 1260), while costing the car-buying public about 3 TRILLION dollars per year, estimated conservatively at $200 per car. But anyone who has priced an airbag knows that this is VERY conservative. Do the math: this comes to $2.7 million per life saved, but the less conservative figure is likely $10 million or more. How many open heart surgeries can be done for even the $2.7 million, not to mention the number the number of poor children that could have health insurance for that amount. A ridiculous allocation of life-saving dollars. But conventional wisdom is foolish.
___So we waste money on airbags, which offer only very marginal protection, and get all worked up about guns, while ignoring swimming pools. And the anti-smoking people aren't without their own data-distortions especially as regards second-hand smoke. As a people, we self-deceive according to what we want to believe.

depends on the people involved;you may come across a very psychotic individual who cannot hit the broad side of a barn with a fully automatic AK47 but that is very skilled in Catch Wrestling and Ju Jitsu that could beat your head against the outside of the pool until your brains gush out or drowned you.Or a child may be trying to see if a safety is "on" on a shotgun and blow his cousins brains out in a corn field while walking with adults on a quail hunt (birds not Vice Presidents, unless Chainey was around, who knows what he may do...)but I would say that the pool is more dangerous than the firearms because people with pools may be unable to reach thier firearm when needed (I always think about that when swimming in my pool in my backyard) and most people that would afford a pool probably have not been exposed to dangerous neightborhoods and may be actually against firearm ownership unaware that is is the right and use of firearms by citizens that provide the safe neighborhood where you can go swimming in a pool........

A swimming pool, because most people try to keep their guns locked up safely. I know a lot of otherwise sensible people who don't either cover or fence off the pool. Sorry- this is a personal peeve...

Of course a gun! Accidents may happen, this sure isn't a perfect world, but a gun is wielded with the intent to harm and a swimming pool is only intended for pleasure.

I would suggest that the answer to your question depends on if one is in a dark alley at night being robbed or in a swimming pool in the middle of the afternoon with cramps.

Without getting into the obvious argument....
they are equally dangerous if someone doesn't know what they are doing or are not trained.
Neither are dangerous on their own .... they become dangerous from the types of people using them.

Neither. Both are inanimate objects and both are subject to the Laws of Physics.
For these to be deadly it involves either a stupid person or a selfish person.
