Nortons is only good with excellent marketing skills, otherwise it is pure junk when it comes to finding a virus or viruses. If you try and remove Nortons you are left with over 375 fragments glued to your files, folders, registry keys and hidden all over your system. Will cause serious conflict with your system.

I suggest you stop the scanner, and run an "online scanner from Karpersky Russia, rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. Karperskey will not conflict with Nortons and can take upto two hours, depending on how many running processes & how many programs installed. Scanner will kill the virus or viruses in real time. Upon completion, reboot your pc.

Here is an excellent free scanner that is light years ahead of Nortons.

Here is an excellent free antivirus program from AOL, Active Virus Shield powered by Kaspersky Lab of Russia. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detection. You will get auto updates every hour on the hour, plus an excellent background scanner that really works great. AOL, will only ask you for your email so they can send you a free key good for one year. After one year just request a new key.

Probably yes, it shouldn't take so long. Try restarting the program or scan your computer online (maybe a virus is blocking the antivirus, this is possible too if you have the luck to get such a malware)

Try for free an online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com and see what happens.
