I'd vote for the Great Patriotic War. There's so much about the Soviet side that isn't well known in the west. For instance, we've traditionally denigrated the use of horse cavalry, but the Soviet horse soldiers did a fine job, and their use was intelligent and instructive. Just a study of that aspect could be fascinating.

Each battlefront has their own interesting tidbits. The Western Front had too many interesting personalities fighting each other. The Eastern Front was probably the fiercest of the whole war. The Pacific and the Asian Continent was interesting in that the US fought an opponent who would not back down and made them fight for every inch of ground. Only you decide from the info I have given you. I go from one front to the other when I read. Right now, I am reading a little bit about the Pacific. I just got done with a book about Tarawa and now I am reading a book about the Doolittle Raid. So, it really is a matter of opinion.

A lot of it depends on what you're looking for. Such as specific battles, equipment, photographs, history, or outcomes to the historic events. You'll find that there is more general puclic knowledge about the Western Front (Germany, Europe, etc.) and the Asian Front (Pacific Theater). However, if you are interested in intersting reading, there is an abundance of new information and reading available about the Eastern Front (Russia, etc.). You'll find it very interesting as to how much impact those particular battles had on the region and the world as a whole.

"Eastern Front," I guess, means the Russians, and we had virtually nothing to do with that. "Asian" means so much water, that it is hard to sustain an interest. "Western Front" on familiar land, creeks and deep rivers--Europe and, the lasting, riveting story of World War II, the Holocaust [it's "Two" or "II," nobody uses "2"]--is the most interesting to us. On the other hand, which one was your grandfathers or great-grandfathers involved in? That would likely be the most interesting to you.
