I personally know of one that lived to be 22 years old he had a room about 12 by 14 that was totally dedicated to him and was set up like no other. usual age is around 12-15 years. genes tend to play a lot with age and with little inbreeding necessary because of the abundance of iguanas and easy availability. breeders can be picky about which ones they tend to breed and care is normally taken to ensure a good stock before the breeding process is started.but if poor breeding is practiced some may live to be less than 5 years before developing life altering diseases. also poor husbandry such as improper care less than perfect conditions and such will most defenately decrease life span. so proper care and good breeding stock are the two factors that play the biggest part in age. you defenately can make sure the care is taken properly and with some investigation with honest breeders you can also ensure a good choice out of a clutch. If you do not already own an ig be very studious in determining if you are the right person before buying one. they do have many cost associated with them they tend to need more vet care than most lizards and dragons. they grow to be 7 foot long and weight 20 lbs. they have an extremely strong bite and a powerful whipping tail. they aget too large to take out in public without risking the life of your pet and the possibilty of a lawsuit if someone gets hurt.
