You will have to boot from the XP cd, and at the install screen, delete the existing partition, then create a new partition to install XP on and select quick format when you are asked how you want to format it.

Vista will stop you from installing XP, you'll get a warning. try it. So, what you'll need to do is set your BIOS to boot from CD-ROM first. Then put in your bootable Windows XP CD into CD-ROM and reboot. Select the partition that Vista was installed on then delete, recreate partition and format then continue to WinXP installation

You can not downgrade any version of Windows. You will have to repartition the hard drive and reformat it to get rid of Vista, then do a clean install of XP.
