Sometimes you can see an egg spot on a non gravid betta, but it's fairly uncommon. It's not usually always there. it usually only shows when the female is gravid.

a female betta always has an egg spot. its actaully called the ovipositor tube. its a little white spot where the eggs come out of when its time.
