According to "The Goddess Oracle" ......A. S. Marashinsky.

Pele (pronounced pay'lay) the volcano Goddess of Hawaii, worship by the Polynesian people, according the mythology she appears to people as a beautiful woman just prior to volcanoes erupting (or as an old woman with a cigarette, which she lights with a snap of her fingers). Her priestesses were the Queens of Hawaii, gave offerrings such as silk cloth, and brandy which was poured into the bubbling lava to appease her and stop the eruptions.

Pele signifies a need for awakening your awareness, for paying attention to what is being offered to you.
