I'll never forget watching my 2 1/2 year old daughter playing, getting frustrated with her toy, and saying "Oh Sh*t!"
I think I must have been using that phrase just a LITTLE too much! I watched my mouth after that.

TV and internet. people on the street when they are walking by. Family. I know that is where I got my cussing from. I dont cuss though. I just know a ton of cuss words from those places or things. I hear a lot more at school though. Also, some of the music that I hear. Some kids at school have contest to see who can use the F word the most in one sentence. We also hear it in stores or pretty much where ever we go. We hear stuff and then we repeat it. Thats how kids are.

Kids are sponges of information, including the bad ones. I raised my little sister to be an angel, and noone swears at all in the house. But right after she begins to play with the neighbors' kids, she began showing traits such as jealousy, snobby, etc. and eventually to swearing/cussing. So the lesson to be learned is that, there's nothing we can do to stop them from learning into cussing. We can only teach them how to differentiate what's appropriate and what's not.

the answer is obvious, media and olders kids and peers. Kids with older siblings are exposed to these words more quickly than others, and when they start to use them, their friends start. also, kids with older friends may be more quickly exposed. Media always has swearing, movies even rated PG have cuss words, and many consider "overprotective parents" people who don't let their kids watch PG-13 movies at age 10 or so. So basically, there is basically no popular non-swearing media, and older kids equals more exposure.

Kids get cussing from their environment, coming from a kid, we get it off the Internet, out of music, from t.v., from family, friends, and everyone around us. And since we are using such vulgar language around everyone it's slowly making it's way down to elementary school, where 9 year old kids are now cussing...

Parents, friends, rap, movies, practically everyone on the planet. The question is, why are we so freaked out about? There are a handful of words we have determined that are unacceptable or offensive, yet we replace these words with similar sounding words that have the same meaning given the context and everyone is fine with that. Why?

I don't cuss in front of my kid, but my kid has a friend that is 7, my child is 5, and he said that his friend taught him all the nasty words.
He KNOWS the consequenses if he ever says those words in front of me. He has a potty mouth then it needs to be cleaned out....right.
