Worst neighborhood - Barrio Logan

Also bad... Logan Heights, Normal Heights, most of the area along El Cajon Blvd. (between North Park and SDSU).

National City is pretty lousy too.

Spring Valley tends to have more than a few meth cookers/motorcycle gangs. Linda Vista has Asian gangs (more violent than other ethnic gangs, who are more involved with drug commerce). That whole area along El Cajon and University Aves (with exception of Hillcrest) have gotten a little dicey latety. Prostitution is well known along El Cajon Blvd all the way out to La Mesa, no matter how many sweeps they use to try to clean it up over many many years.

I agree with SoCalDude, but I'd also add parts of Escondido. Your nicer areas tend to be near the coast, and the farther east you go, more ghetto it gets. Until you get to Oceanside and National City/Chula Vista. Those somewhat near coastal areas are more ghetto then anywhere on the coast. I chose to live in Oceanside. Chula Vista and National City were a little too run down for me personally. I live on the border to Carlsbad and love it. Good luck!

Best bet is Hotel Circle but I've seen most of the chains going 50-70 a night.
