Are you referring to the Illinois FOID card, or the ATF FFL/C&R licenses?

If you are looking to get a FOID card (assuming you are not a minor), you need $5, a state ID or drivers license, and a picture.

You can get the application online at:

http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/ and click on Download Application.

Fill out the application, tape the picture, write down your information, put a check for $5 in there, and send it to the state police.

If you are looking to get an FFL license or a C&R license from the ATF, you need to get the application from the local ATF office or request it online. You need to fill it out, submit a copy to the feds and a copy to the Chief of Police, etc..

Check out the ATF FAQ at http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/index.htm

First get a copy of your birth certificate, a copy of your Social Security card and your license together.

Next talk to the gun shop where you want to purchase the firearm. Ask them about the paperwork that must be filed and double check the laws for ownership in the city/town you live in. The store will walk you through the process.

You must be 18 to own a rifle or shotgun. and 21 to purchase a pistol or revolver.
