talk to someone because i went through this too. sounds like you may have a chemical imbalance. but im on an herbal suppliment called st johns wort it works me i take 21st century brand and i take 2 pills at a time once a day. it made ny brain stop over thinking. it sounds like your still in school. the problem is that a huge majority of teens go through this. its because all your hormones and mental chemistry are changing and yea it can drive you crazy. si if it gets too bad to handle see a doctor and get some meds. good luck

I am by no means a professional, but I would work on resolving this fear by facing it. I would have people that I trust look me in the eyes on purpose and do so deliberately. I believe that this experience is bringing up a fear of being judged by other people, criticised, turned against by others. A very good way to help heal that is to do the very thing that brings it up. With time and repetition, it will help the deeper mind, the emotional and psychological mind to realise that it does not need to fear judgement from other people. With time you will be able to practically STARE into anothers eyes, have them stare back, and you will no longer feel the old apprehensions. That does not mean to go around and stare into everyones eyes in the mean time. But on purpose give yourself permission to glance up into their eyes when you interact with them so that your deeper mind will learn that you are safe with them, safe doing so, and that the fear has no reality. A very wise Martial Arts Sensei (Dennis Estes) told me once to always remember that FEAR is truly nothing more than False Evidence Appearing Real. I live by that creed.

I have the same problem. When my boss would talk to me, because I detested my boss, I always thought I was listening but when she was done talking I didn't have a clue as to what she said. I have that problem alot when people are talking about something I'm not interested in. My guees is you have some kind of a mental block. Like a red alert that goes to your brain that doesn't allow you to hear what others are saying. I don't know how to cure it but I do know it gets worse over time. If you figure it out let me know.

This sounds like social anxiety or paranoia. If this continues to get worse, speak to someone close to you about it. I use to have this exact same problem a couple of years ago. My way of dealing with it was simply to start a conversation with a completely random person. Not only did I get over my anxiety, but I met loads of new people who I would have never got to know otherwise. Try it out sometime, and force yourself to keep eye contact, not staring, but normal eye contact. If all else fails, go speak to someone about the problem.

You've already taken the first step by saying that you want to get help for this. Now, go talk to a school counselor and tell them what a hard time you are having. Tell your parents, too so they can get you some help. Trust me, it's worth getting the help so you can feel better about yourself and your friendships.

I'm not sure what is going inside you! It could be that you have no self esteem. The other thing is that, wen you think some one is staring at you and every body is looking at you whilst they are not, the obvious thing would be to start acting differently from the rest around you. This will then attract people to you because you are acting differently. Just be you, and please know you are unique and special among billions of people in the world.

No, you aren't insane. To me, it doesn't sound that serious (this would be a good thing). And I would really like to delete the other people's comments who said you are insane....
Just talk to your parents about it or the school counselor and they'll be able to help you out.

I ask people questions, whilst looking them right in the eye, and then turn away and appear to have no interest in their answer, when I know I do.
Anxiety mate, that's all.

first of all you should be calling a therapist and not asking dumb rednecks on yahoo answers
second of all, I used to have the same problem, whenever it happens, just like, pull your hair or something and every time you do it just give yourself a pinch or something, I still do it a little bit, but not as much
