I think that they are mostly for people who have young children, or work somewhere where they need to be available all of the time. It is nice to know you can always be reached, and if you travel a lot, it is very comforting to have a cell phone. If you really don't use it, don't feel bad. To each their own, I know a few people in their 20's who hate them and refuse to get them :)

Ok first of all you should give yourself a round of applause for being 80 and knowing how to use a computer. Kids really like the cell phones because they can keep in touch with all of their friends easily with them no matter where they are. Text messaging is another big thing allowing them to talk without speaking. Some phones also double as music players too. Yes, most of the time they could use a home phone, but who wants to do that when you have shiny new cell phone?

You don't think you need one? But, stop and consider this. You're driving down a street and you have a stoke or heart attack. You're conscious enough to dial your phone and summon an ambulace. If you didn't have the phone, you'd probably not make it. Then your wife will wonder for the remaining years of her life, whether or not you would of lived if only you had the cell phone! So I would say get the phone back. You can get a trac-phone at walmart for 20.00 You buy minutes in card form to load into the phone. You can save money by going this route since you would only be using it for emergencies. You won't need many minutes a month. Stay safe!

There are so many situations where I am thankful I have my cell phone, here are a few examples:
-My car has broken down three times in the past, with my cell phone I easily called roadside assistance without having to wait for a passerby to stop
-When my family and I or friends and I separate at the store, a fair, down town, we can call each other to determine where to meet up
-I was grocery shopping and couldn't remember the ingrediants in a recipe I had, I call my boyfriend and he found it for me so I didn't have to make a trip back to the store
-I can run errands without worrying I'll miss an important phone call

Cell phones are VERY important and a very good thing to carry on you! You could be in an accident and need it. Your car could break down and you need it. You could be in any life or death situation. With a cell phone you could call the cops! Also you should think of getting a track phone because you can buy the minutes on it!

Ive never understood what the big deal about cell phones is either.!
Great question.
I have one that I am required to use for work, as soon as I leave my job I turn it off and it never comes on until I clock back in. And that not because they want me using it only during work hours, its because I dont want to use the damn thing.
I dont understand why everyone feels like they have to be connected 24/7. I guarantee 99% of the converstions on cell phones are just unimportant idle chit-chat.
BTW: You dont even need to sign up with a phone company to use your phone for 911 emergency services. You can have a cell phone and not pay a dime to use it in such situations.

Well if you have an emergency or if you need to get in touch with someone it's easier. But I guess young people use them more. I use my cell phone to call my mom when I need picked up from somewhere like soccer practice or something or when my mom or dad is gone I can call them if I need anything.

Well, look at it this way.
Think of all the political gangsterism using cell phones toward psychological warfare. By now we're all aware brain cancer, brain protein leaks, and tumors.
Not a fantasy.
The first wave of cases expected will probably be numerous.

Good question, Just today I got locked out of my house for an hour and a half in the heat. I couldn't call anyone to let me in because they didn't have a cell. It helps alot everyonce in a while. It's usefull for keeping track of your kids and such, also.
