If the jewelry is metal, it would need to come out. They interfere with the mammogram, which is a type of Xray, and create a black spot on the image.
maybe let your piercing heal a while, then insert plastic rings or something non metallic for the mammogram so it won't interfere with the image.

Are you kidding? They won't even let you wear a cross around your neck!
You must remove them because the jewelry metal, plastic, whatever it is made of ] will obscure [ hide ] part of the breast tissue.
Postpone the mammogram, or remove the jewelry. They will probably refuse to do it if you won't take the jewelry out - they would be liable if they 'missed a spot'.

Not with Mamograms but with xrays alone yes... they make you remove all jewelry...
I wouldn't thing you were that terribly old if you're getting your nipples pierced, but I guess you have your own reasons for needing a mammogram. Don't be surprised if you have to reschedule and get it taken out....

I have had a number of mammograms due to Breast Cancer, and yes you will need to remove any metal jewellry you have on. They would interfere with the signal mainly, but, by the time your breast has been squashed nearly flat between two plates you would be in excruciating agony with them in anyway!

I'm afraid so....the machine just flattens your breast like a pancake and the jewelry would interfere. I had to have a CAT Scan done and they made me take out my cartlidge piercing and it closed that quick. I understand the choice you have to make. Good luck with your test and hope all is well.

The metal ones will show up and may obsure things. You can get plastic ones and even flexible ones for use when you have to be in hospital etc. check out www.painfulpleasures.com - it's a website for piercings, not p*rn!

Yes. Fortunately I was able to realize in advance it might be helpful to call the lab to ask this question. They said remove the piercings.

I'm pretty sure you'll want to take it out. Call a nurse line and ask though to make sure. Or just call the place you have your appt set and reschedule in a time when you can take them out.
