My question to you is "When did you Choose to be straight? You didn't choose to be straight, you were born that way. You like the opposite sex not because of a choice, it was right for you. Do you agree with this or disagree.

Ex-gays have been brainwashed into thinking it's a choice by the religious.
The straights never answer if it's a choice for them.

Every day there is more and more information available from various scientific studies that give credence to the fact that it is genetic. These are available online and in print. Aside from that is the historic evidence, including the bible if you actually read it through, in art of every period showing that same sex encounters and relationships have been happening since at least as long as man has kept any kind of record. Add this to the evidence of the animal kingdom, again well documented and available online, that shows same sex pairings even among species that are known to mate for life, and you have your answer. The only "choice" I see is whether I hide who I am, pretend to live as something I'm not and make myself and others miserable in a false heterosexual relationship or refuse to lie and live as I am as an openly gay man.
Supposedly, the christian god said to "be fruitful and multiply", which for those insisting that these are some of the dominant words to live by focus all attention on this. But they ignore the fact that this world is becoming overcrowded and we are rapidly wiping out other species of life that share this world. What happens when they are gone, when we have been "fruitful" to the point that we are all that's left living here? Do we then become cannibals? Make the movie "Soylent Green" a reality?
God also said "Judge not, lest you yourself be judged". Who are these bible-thumpers and fundamentalists who yell at me and call me sinner and worse? Where is the love that they are supposed to show their fellow man? Am I not also a Child of the Creator? I choose to believe that, in the infinite wisdom of a Divine Authority I, and those like me were created as a divine means of popluation control, however small an effort that might seem.
Let others hate me for being who I am, if they must. They will learn their error when called. For my part, I quote that wonderful line from a child's t-shirt..." I'm ME...God doesn't make mistakes".

How could I agree or disagree? I don't remember choosing to be straight, but couldn't rule out environmental factors when I was very young. Still, it seems many scientific studies agree with your conclusion.

That said, while it may not be possible to control your attractions, it is possible to control your actions, if you choose to do so. When straight men get married, they don't stop being attracted to other women, but they may choose not to act on those attractions. The same is true for gay couples, I would assume. The same is true for those entering religious orders where ALL sex is forbidden (excluding those who don't keep their vows.)

I am straight, and I agree with you. I dont think gay or lesbians wake up one morning and decide that they like the same sex. I do not think that is something that happens here. And honestly people who say that to you are ignorant. Until they can prove that it is a choice, they should just stop stereotyping.

i dont think its a choice you cant choose who u fall in love with u cannt controle how u feel about something. u can choose what u wnt to eat or what movie u want to see. i think u r either born gay or born straight, i dont think anyone chooses to be gay or straight. and hope that there a olther people out there that agree with me. i say this dont listen to anyone but u. u can only make u happy and they can only bring u down if u let them. hope this helps

Here's my one question regarding the "choice" issue.

To those of you who (whom?) think sexuality is a choice I ask you,

So tomorrow you could just wake up and decide to be gay?

OKAY HERE IT IS GUYS. No, nobody is born gay. There is no friggin' gay gene. (Not that we've found yet, but the Human Genome project isn't finished yet! Is it?) There are MANY thing that factor into one's sexuality. Levels of hormones, experiences at very young ages, and environment all play into what will shape your sexuality, among other things. However, when humans start to mature sexually and do start noticing that they like one sex or the other, although they can deny it and try to have a different 'preference', in the end they find they can't change it. Sure, they can hide it, marry someone they don't really love (which is just cruel to the one they marry), and be miserable for the rest of their lives. But they can't change their sexuality. Just can't.

Have you noticed, though, that most straight people on forums like this (me included) already accept that (of course) sexual orientation is not a choice? It's only a few oddballs who still like to pretend that it's a choice, for their own reasons.

What you eat at the drive-thru is a choice, being gay isn't.
