NEW YORK - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday switched his party status from Republican to unaffiliated, a stunning move certain to be seen as a prelude to an independent presidential bid that would upend the 2008 race.

I never trusted that weasley liberal b*stard for one second.
Now he has left the GOP.

All I can say is, GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

What say you?

It is about time he left. He only became a Republican because it gave him the mayor's office.

I guess the question that Republicans have to ask themselves is this: has Bloomberg been doing anything as Mayor that they (Republicans) liked and that a Democrat Mayor would not have done? If Bloomberg was functionally no different than a Democrat would have been in the Mayor's office, then yes you should simply say "good riddance."

I remember that when Jim Jeffords left the GOP, some other Republicans said the same thing: good riddance. But those who talk that way neglect to pay attention that Jeffords' votes on issues got much more liberal after he left the GOP then when he was a member of the party.

That's a knee-jerk reaction which makes it clear that you are ignorant of the man, his politics and his policies. Only ignorant people toeing the GOP line will agree with you.

Fiscally speaking, he's definitely not liberal and the most ultra-liberal New Yorkers hate him.

He's done an outstanding job as Mayor of NYC keeping that city financially afloat while recovering from the spiritual, psychological and economic disaster that 9/11 was.

Rather than wait for the federal aid Bush promised in the wake of 9/11 and then never delivered, he implemented tax-cuts and cut social programs across the board. He even had the audacity to close some firehouses that weren't performing. He forced the Board of Education to stop the decades long social promotion and insisted that kids who didn't pass tests would have to repeat grades and go to summer school. Where accountability was called for, he made accountability a requirement. Isn't that a GOP hallmark?

He has an approval rating of 70% which is phenomanal in NYC and completely unheard of in that city's history.

I do not have a problem with this little man with Napolean complex having food labled with nutritional information but telling me how much I can eat or drink or even whathe can kiss my ***. New York is as fudged up as California because liberals only know how to run business out. Personal responsibility is not in the liberal dictionary because people are too stupid to make choices for themselves. I don't need your ignorant *** liberal policies telling me what to eat or drink. **** Bloomberg the guy is a jackwagon.

I was happy when I heard the news. We don't need jerks like him in our party. I hope he runs for president, it will help the republicans by giving the liberals someone else to vote for.

A liberal republican? Who's the oxymoron? I do enjoy how staunch republicans are so willing to bash their own who even suggest an iota of free thinking or actions. I never thought I would live long enough to see the day that the GOP is in such turmoil. I think there must be a god, or is it, even the gods are crazy?

I was never a fan, and my chances of voting for him are slim to none, but unlike you I'm happy to see him come to his senses. I have no respect for anyone who walks lockstep with members of any party, Republican, Democrat, or other. He provides a direly-needed dissenting voice in breaking ranks as he's done. I'll get lots of thumbs downs and possibly some hostile rebuttals and that's OK.

If only he would leave the city as he left the party we would all be better off. Just another fake conservative.
