The THH Matte is snell and DOT approved and has back vents which I like.

HJC one is only DOT approved but I do know they are more popular.

Which one should I get?

Shouldn't all that matter is that the helmet be DOT and Snell approved and not the brand? People are saying Bell, Arai, and Shoei are the only way to go, is it proven that you will more likely die with a THH Snell Dot approved helmet than you would with the same helmet just a different name?

First best Arai

Second best Shoei

These are the only helmets that I wear my brain is my second favorite organ...!!!

Get the one with the Snell approval.

DOT means that the straps work!!!

First of all, NEVER buy a helmet that is not Snell approved. DOT means practically nothing and has not been tested as thoroughly as Snell. And NEVER buy a helmet because its popular. Buying a helmet is unique to every person. What fits well for the majority may not fit well for you.

Between the THH and the HJC (assuming both helmets are Snell approved), I would go with the HJC. HJC has been in the business longer than THH and has a very good track record for safety.

Fit and comfort are very important. A loose helmet can cause you more injury than a snug one.

No helmet will protect you in a severe accident, but will protect you in a smaller one. Use your head and try to avoid dangerous situations whenever possible, because that is the only way to stay safe.

Also, don't be fooled with the hype. Buying an expensive helmet doesn't neccessarily mean you'll get more protection. The difference between a middle of the road helmet (approx $200) and a top of the line helmet (approx $1000) is terms of protection if almost insignificant, based on the numbers (do the research).
In most cases, its brain trauma (severe concussion) or neck injury that will incapacitate the rider, which usually leads to death.

Buy what you can afford and that fits well and is comfortable. And use your brain to not get into situations where you'll need the helmet to protect you.

Ride Safe!

buy the best helmet you can afford that fits your head properly. If you just look online you could end up buying a helmet that may be safe, affordable, and look good, but doesn't fit your head shape. Arai makes three interior shapes, the Quantum, Vector, and Profile. Each have the same external features but are shaped differently inside. All you really need to feel safe is a Snell approval. But, if you plan on spending long periods of time on the bike, you should look into a really good helmet, like shoei or arai. You get a much more well built helmet, that will last you longer, and be WAAAAY more comfortable on long rides. Also, the more you pay the better the vents get. The Arai rx7 corsair and the shoei x11 vent amazingly. I personally don't like THH. I used to sell them and I think they are junk. HJC, whether snell or only DOT is at least a well built helmet. I really would buy the best fitting helmet for the most you can afford. You really do get what you pay for.

Generally speaking, so long as the helmet has the correct label, it is safe for use regardless of the brand.
Some high risk bikers (Racers, Stunt Idiots etc) will invest in a top flight helmet due to the extremely high risk of landing on their heads.
You should really be deciding the important factors like open face versus full face versus flip up. Will you be riding a fast sport bike or chugging round happily on a cruiser. (Wind noise factor). Will it accomodate glasses, intercom, ear muffs or whatever else you want to stuff in it?
Never mind which one is popular, go to the bike shop, find one that looks cool, fits the tick list (from above), try it on and if it fits get it. If it happens to only cost 100 dollars then thats fine.
(Obviously avoiding the cheap and nasty imported things bearing such names as the Devine Wind Plastic Corp.)
I personally have a 300 dollar Caberg flip up
Great for touring on the BMW except noisy at very high speed., and a 100 dollar HJC which is super cool, great graphics, fits the tick list and quieter than the Caberg at speed, ideal for my faster sports bike. Both helmets have good air flow and the HJC came with a choice of fog guards as standard.

Snell is always better, they are put through a much better series of tests. You don't want the popular bucket to hold your brain in the morgue. The other thing is to make sure that you properly fit the helmet to you, don't wear a bun or ponytail, and don't overdo hairspray when you fit it. A good bike shop will have people who can help you find the right fit.

if you read this article about helmets you'll have a better view of which helmet is right for you. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/
Once I had it narrowed down to a few that I liked then went to the local cycle shop and looked at them in person. I use http://www.sandhillpowersports.com for gear because I've found them to be cheaper offer free shipping on some purchases and they ship quickly.

I don't know where you're from, here in canada their are rules for that kind of helmet, I'd reccoment the safest and the one that is legal in your area! Here, when the word snell is on the helmet it is ok, (with DOT).

And if they're both ok (safety and legal), well chose the one you prefer.
