I plan on putting my tank on my dresser because it's got a lot of space and is very sturdy. I large mirror is attached to the back of my dresser. I've heard that some fish may think that their reflection is another fish and will smack its head into the side of the tank to get to the "other fish". Is this true? I don't want my fish to bust their heads open.

If you are keeping a betta or some other territorial fish and the mirror will be within about 6" of the tank it could be a problem. I would suggest you use a background on the tank to prevent the problem no matter what fish you have in the tank.

Depends on the kind of fishes u have.
male Betta's dont like to see other male's and that would be a problem.
schooling fishes would swim most of the time near the mirror(back of the tank) instead of comin to the front as they feel secure in numbers
Territorial fishes wont like the mirror too.

That'll probably be fine. In fact, the fish might even enjoy it because a lot of fish enjoy chasing their reflections, as you might notice they do with the tank walls. Just be sure the mirror is sturdy and won't fall on the tank.

It depends on the type of fish. If you have a betta, then it will defiantly hurt itself. If you have any other type of highly defencive and territorial fish do not put it up against the mirror. If you have to, simply put a picture in between the tank and mirror. Problem solved.

if you think it could bother them in any way then you could just get paper and cover the tank facing the mirror side or if you want, the aquarium wallpaper that creates the underwater scene.
but i think it's be okay becase so fish LIKE there reflection, such as goldfish :]
but i think bettas would hate it

Only one kind of fish does this. It's called a Beta fighting fish.
They think there reflection is another fish trying to fight with them. If you have a beta fish it has to be a beta fighting fish to do this. Any other kind of fish is alright too.
