My former sitter gave my son a cookie about 2 months ago and he swelled up like a balloon. I was not sure what caused his swelling. Then he has had pasta and got hives and then tonight my husband gave him a few bits of his cookie and he got hives again. Could this be something he will grow out of or is this an alergi he may have to live with for every.

Any time your son has an allergic-type reaction, he should be seen by a doctor especially if any swelling is involved. Body swelling and hives can easily lead to a severe anaphylactic reaction causing swelling in his airway which can be life-threatening. Call your pediatrician for an appointment as soon as possible. It is likely he will send you to an allergist. Both cookies and pasta do contain whole eggs and it may be he is allergic to either whole eggs or just the whites. It is generally recommended to wait until a year to give a baby egg whites due to high instances of allergic reactions. Food allergies can be short-lived or life-long. They can also be mild or life-threatening.

My first son had a lot of allergy issues. Right before he turned one I gave him a small bite of egg and his face broke out in hives. I freaked out... and called the pediatric and she said to give him some benadryl and bring him in to have him tested for food allergies.

We took him in to be tested.... you can do a skin or blood test. Come to find out he was not only allergic to egg, but also dairy and peanuts! He did outgrow all of his allergies by the time he was 3, but he could not have anything with those products until he was no longer allergic to them. It was very hard to feed him because there was so much he couldn't have and we had to have him tested each year.

Most children grow out of food allergies, but some do not. Go and have him tested. Hope this helps. Good luck!

i would talk to your doctor. My daughter has alot allergies and acid reflux. When we were trying to find out what her allergies are my doctor wondered if it was wheat. She told me to buy her cream of wheat and to see how she reacted to that. THe box has directions on it for how to make for a child under 12 months. Did the cookie have nuts in it? That is a common allergy. Good luck with his allergies I know personally that it is scary not knowing what causes this to happen to your child.

You should have your son tested for Celiac Disease.
They can do a blood test, but you have to ask for this test specifically. Celiac disease, which means that anything with GLUTEN in it is what they are allergic to, they cant eat anything with wheat, barley, rye, or oats.
If your son has Celiac he wont grow out of it, but you can manage his symptoms by watching what he eats. You will notice a difference as soon as he isn't eating anything with GLUTEN in it. Good luck!!

If your child is allergic to wheat or flour then
he has celiac disease. Try to avoid giving him barley, rye, oats and wheat in the diet and he will be fine.
