When you see a color it is because all other colors are reflecting off the surface. When you see the sky is blue it's because of the "bandwith" if you will....all other color bandwiths are not showing, only blue.

Ok, I'll do this easy way and the hard way:

EASY

Light from the sun is diffracted by dust and water droplets in the atmosphere. Blue light is diffracted the most, bounces to earth and the sky looks BLUE.

HARD

The suns light is almost white (NOT YELLOW) when viewed in space because it contains all the colours of the rainbow. Blue light is diffracted more than the other colours due to our atmosphere and dust and gases in it. The Blue light is then sent in all directions so the sky you look at (where the sun isn't) looks Blue.

This leaves a mainly Yellow spectrum with less blue than normal in the direction of the Sun, hence the sun looks yellow, even though it is white. At sunset the distance the light goes through the atmosphere is greater due to the low angle against the horizon so even yellows are diffracted leaving Reds and Oranges, hence the sunset colours.

The sea reflects the sky's colours so it looks blue (or green for algae or Grey on cloudy days) even though water is VERY slightly blue in colour.

Hope this explains it for you.

The sky is blue because of many reasons theory one

1. It rains because water from the Earth is absorbed by the air which releases it back to Earth, so then the sky is just one big cloud

theory two

2. Blue, Red and Yellow are the 3 primary colors in an art work. In the light color Blue Red and Green are the primary colors of light. Also known as true colors. Blue is the closest to violet, which means that it is more power full. This is from the rainbow. Red orange yellow green blue indago and violet. Light from the sun come into the atmosphere and then mixes with the three primary colors. Since blue is one of the three primary colors of light and is also the closest color of the three primary colors of light to violet it creates a light blue.

Dust and moisture cause diffraction of the light spectrum.

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.

However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.

As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white.

the sky is blue because of the phenomenon known as scattering. What happens is when sun's light which is white and composed of all the colours in the spectrum. The atmophere devialte the blue coloured light from its trajectory and thus all other light reaches the earth before blue coloured light resulting in sky appearing blue. this can be inferred from more redder sky in polluted areas such as many metropolitan cities because then the pollutants scatter red coloured light.

the majestic sky scatters blue light more lovingly than any other colour, except in the evening when the sun is about to go to bed, and then red gets in your head.
