obviously country music has won the hearts of millions but i never understood why more blacks aren't in country music when there are just as many country black folks as inner city black folks. on the other hand, whites (young people of course) are embracing hip hop and r&b but the same thing isn't happening as quickly in reverse(blacks embracing country music). we have had small steps (rapper nelly and tim mcgraw, etc) but nothing huge... yes i know about cowboy troy/ rissi parker, etc

There was one...Mr. Charley Pride (and I insist you say MISTER). The man had a voice like an angel singing. He was a goooooooooood country singer...unfortunately, he was a little ahead of his time, when EVERYone was being opressed by the "good ole boy" network. And you know what? I'm as white and as country as they come, so I have "inside access". He was loved and well respected by the decent white folk because he was a great guy and a great talent. But unfortunately, the majority of whites in power back then were *******. Now we've got the power - and don't let anyone tell you it's because country is run by racist whitey anymore cuz that aint true. Not anymore. It *was*, but NOT now. In fact, we'd love to see it more diversified. The same old thing gets boring after awhile! So if you know of any? Bring 'em on! We're always looking for new stuff. In fact, there was a guy on MySpace who contacted our local country station with a song eh wanted them to play (he's a young black kid into rap). They told him to turn his original song into a country tune because they played country, not rap. He did and they played it and it was GREAT. People were calling in from all over requesting it. So its not from lack of wanting new talent...its not racism (anymore)...it's just that, I guess, black folks jus dont like it. Maybe it reminds them of "those days" when the majority of white people were dickheads?

God Bless Charley Pride...

Country music isn't that popular right now. You wouldn't hear about any new artists going into the country genre, maybe that's why.

The only country/rap collaboration I can think of is Over and Over Again with Nelly and Tim Mcgraw.

there are charley pride (mr.), lionel richie (he has written for folks like kenny rogers i believe), leadbelly, blind lemon jefferson, cleve francis, frankie staton, mary cutrufello... the banjo was also invented by black people.and! the Hi records catalogue is filled with country songs. most notably ann peebles' 'jealousy' and al green's 'for the good times'. black people always have done country music. there are also artists like betty swann, who is somewhat known as a country artist, mixed with a little of the 'soul' genre. to me, the stax and Hi catalogues are country music too. there are actually a few books about black country artists, i cannot recall all the titles or authors right now.

Black people (as myself) have grown up around rap and R&B
and blues they have never really cared for country because country wasnt that popular then and most slaves sung the blues so they really never did listen to country and they came p with rap, blues, and R.B.

No thanks............I have tried listening to it, but it just does not appeal to me.

Now that song with Tim McGraw and Nelly, that was a good one. I have to admit that!
