Hmmm...the schedule includes Baltimore, Indianapolis, and New England, and Jacksonville (who may be better than some people think as long as they get some consistancy out of their QB).

Somehow I doubt that facing two QBs with hall of fame credentials all ready, and the team with the best defense in the league a year ago will help the Chargers equal their 14-2 season a year ago. (Especially when you consider that the Ravens did contribute to one of the Chargers 2 losses last season).

I think the question is can Norv Turner keep the Chargers confident, focused, and playing well in the regular season to get to the point where we can ask a bigger question, can the Chargers win in the playoffs?

If healthy the three other top teams Ravens Patriots and Colts look to be there. You know Ray Lewis will be out to make up for their early post season exit to the Colts, and don't go thinking that Brady doesn't want ring number 4.

It seems to me like the Chargers have the most to prove, they are the only top team in this equation that doesn't have a Vince Lombardi trophy sitting in their showcase. That could make them quite hungry...

I think the Chargers are a great team that can continue (for now) being great whether they have Marty or Norv, but I think it was wrong of them to fire Schottenheimer. He's a fantastic coach and sooner or later the Chargers are gonna need some coaching and Norv has proven not to be a very good one.

Norv Turner has never had that much success as a head coach. That being said, he's also never had this talented a team. Phillip Rivers is proving his worth despite having one good receiver and an all-pro tight end. LaDanian Tomlinson WILL be a Hall of Famer one day. The defense is stellar. Norv should be able to do well. If he doesn't, this is going to come back to bite the Chargers management in the ***. I still think they're better of without Marty because of his probably with the front office.

The "only" reason to me that they may be better off now, is in decision making in playoff crunch time. Norv Turner "should" be able to coach (in the playoffs) like there is nothing to lose. He game plans his offense with good aggression not overboard but solid. He has the knack (at least with Dallas) to go for the kill when the opponent is down.

One of my reasons why they may not be better off is... at least with Marty, I would guarantee the 2007 Chargers are a top 4 team in the AFC and will make the playoffs. No guarantees with Norv.

No Norv has never been that good on the top. A good second man.
But with the media pressure that is why Marty was fired.
Players really like Marty.
This may be an unsettling season for SD or the bolts.

the chargers have a great team ,and maybe a great team can overcome having norv as a head coach ,but trust me after having norv in washington he is a good offensive coordinator but not much of a head coach i think the chargers should have either found a better coach or kept marty

You're ALWAYS better off firing Marty (or never hiring him in the first place). He's ruined every team he's ever coached.

As for Norv, I don't know as he's never had the talent to really win anywhere else.

They can not be any worse in the playoffs. Marty ball is great during the regular season, but in the playoffs you have to score non stop. You can not play conservative with a 3 point lead and 4 minutes left in the game. Marty's history has repeated its self for ever. I think he sold his soul to the devil to get a Head coaching job and just make the playoffs. You are damned to repeat your history if you don't learn it. Look at his record in Cleveland and Kansas City same story as the Chargers. Last year was his shot, now retire gracefully and work on TV. He is a great coach to build a team, just can't get them over the hump. Turner regular season record as a head coach is no better, but has won Super Bowls as a OC, and I think he will get them to the promise land if not I think they will hire Pete Carroll.

I am not convinced. Norv Turner has ruined superbowl caliber teams before. Marty couldnt win the big game so its understandable that they fired him but replacing him with Norv was risky. I would have just held onto Marty.
