That depends on how open minded the person is. After all, Ronald Reagan was once a Democrat and later became a Republican but then, he was smart enough to check all the facts and learn :)

Rove is in charge of your covert operations against the opposition...Oh you meant convert? I seriously doubt if I can convert any of the neocons on this board. I might be able to make some think. That is if any have a brain big enough or a mind that's in the least bit open. From some of the questions, answers, and comments, I'd say that is rare.
BTW re your comment about Streisand being the only woman with an Adam's apple-Haven't you seen any pictures of Ann Coulter?
To lordkelvin-I hope you realize that your answering a question from someone who asked about Republican women being hotter than liberal women.

Not generally, but perhaps a few will start thinking for themselves!
I like this forum not because I am going to change anyones mind. I joined so I could research all the statements that are not fact, and all those claimed to be fact, which are not! My views change over issues, but my philosophy towards helping those that we made does not!
So I learn, and the next time I get a question I know is untrue on its face, I challenge, and they hate that! They hate facts so they start with the personal attacks. You should read some of the email II get that is pure trash, eh Fred?

I don't see how that's possible. There are several people who are just here to shout out their put downs for the other side and to spew the talking points they heard on Rush or Hannity or Air America. From what I've seen people interested in rational debate are few and far between here.

Converting to conservatism is not possible. Opening the eyes of liberals and those who think they are is work, but it does work. Most people have no idea and if you present conservatism to them they get it.
I focus on easy issues to turn people from liberalism. In CT, we have leftists all over the place.
I mention:
1. Jessica's Law is not passed. Child molesters deserve 20 years minimum first offense. Most people get it.
2. Eminent Domain reform. Big problem here most people know it is not fair for the government to take private property and sell it to private companies.
3. Most people are capable of spending their money better than the government.
I start here and go into bigger issues. It works. Some are not willing to listen so I antagonize the liberals. They hate it and it is fun.

I don't think converting the opposition is my goal.
My goal is to not think of the opposition as opposition, but a partner for reform. I think both parties have good ideas and if they're put together, some good stuff could happen.

Yes, I think it is possible. But to do that, people have to be open minded. To be truthful, I've changed my personal stance on a few major items. I will point out though that it happened as a result of intelligent questions and certainly not from the bashings.

I don't think I can convert them...
most have already decided that they don't care what facts you present... they will believe what they are going too...
but usually, I'm just trying to give the "other side" to anyone who's wondering by that may actually think the person asking the question knows what they are talking about...

It's easy to convert younger people that don't know that much about politics. Just say "do you want more or less money in your paycheck every week?"

Maybe not, but I like to put the rhetoric through the fire. Just to smelt it, and temper it into rational debate.
